Violet

Violet is in charge of a pack of rowdy animals. Suddenly incapacitated, she delegates her authority to young Lilly, who must now take charge and be the leader she never knew she was.

Melli and I wrote this together. The italic lines are mine, the rest is all her! We also wrote Memento tonight!

An AI-generated cartoonist rendition of Lilly and the pets.

There once was a woman with many pets. Though none of them like you would expect. Somehow, they have all the different colours of the rainbow. One colour each, not like stripes or anything. And they always lined up exactly in order. The red crocodile took the first spot, followed by an orange orangutans (they were not all weird...), followed by a yellow zebra, and a green kakatoo. But one of the pets did not know its place, for it was deep purple and between the green kakatoo and a blue goldfish.

The woman noticed, and said, "My name is Violet. And you are out of line, Lilly!" And Lilly looked deeply embarassed as she said, "Oh, I'm so sorry! I was not aware we were supposed to stand in any order." Voilet slapped her violently. "Be quite, Lilly, please! Quickly now, before..."

And then it was like that house of theirs popped like a soap bubble, leaving them with nothing but the sharp wind under a grey colourless sky.
"There you go. You did it now, Lilly!"
"I'm so sorry, Madam! I didn't... It won't happen again, Madam!"

"I know, Lilly," said the woman, aging by the second.
"Listen carefully. You must lead them home now."
Lilly started crying and said, sobbingly, "I can't, Madam! I... I can't!" and burst into tears.
"You must, Lilly! Otherwise
they will stray alone in this world and never find their place again!" And so Lilly took all her courage to lure the straying crocodile and talk sweetly to the yellow zebra until she had them all lined up, ordered by colour, ready to embark on their journey. Violet, in the meantime, had turned into dust and the wind picked her up and laid her down in a winding line that crossed the hilltop.
"Thank you, Madam," and Lilly set off.

Snap! it went, ripping her from what she had called her reality for a few minutes.
"Lilly, stop daydreaming! Or I will have to talk to your mother again," said Mrs. Janice.

But Lilly knew better than to leave Violet behind for a silly math test.
